We brought the car to NYC to display it at Classic Car Club Manhattan, yes. But also to deliver the thing! The owner works in NYC, but lives in Connecticut. It made perfect sense logistically to display the car at CCC prior to delivery.

An invite to display 311RS #01 in NYC before most of the major Automotive press? Yes please.

This was exactly the case after we revealed 311RS #01 in Minneapolis. The car was all over the net, and because of this we were in contact with a lot of people who wanted to see the car in person. A friend reached out and asked if I would be open to displaying #01 at Classic Car Club Manhattan (www.classiccarclubmanhattan.com) instead of the NY Auto Show.

My Great Grandmother Marge is so sweet. She’s 88 years old and still comes to support me at events. The 2013 Minneapolis Auto Show was no different. She was there to witness her Great Grandson deliver his first Production car and meet the Owner of the car. She couldn’t help herself, she had to sit in the car.

On March 11, 2013 we delivered our first 311RS Evo X to it’s owner at the Minneapolis Auto Show. The owner had only previously seen the car in photos, never in person, bought the car sight unseen.. This was a big moment for us!

Minnesota native Ryan Gates and Mitsubishi Motors are set to unveil the first Production 311RS Evolution X on March 11th, 2013 at 2:00pm CST in the Mitsubishi Motors booth at the 40th Annual Minneapolis Auto Show.

Too much is never enough. That has never sounded more correct than it does now. When building your own limited production car, it’s nearly impossible to call the thing done. There is always something more you could do. Here’s a look into a few of the details we’ve put into production, in this case on 311RS #01.

Here is your first picture of a production 311RS Evo X. #01 as it’s known has been a long time coming. #00 was driven across the country more than four (4) times for everything from the Texas Mile, the Modified Tuner Shootout, a film, and even two random road trips to test how realistic a 311RS could actually be.

It seemed impossible at first, but with careful planning and plenty of skilled labor we had made it happen. We had prepared 311RS #01 for delivery in less than 3 weeks. From start to finish, everything had gone (somewhat) according to plan, including booking an unreal delivery location - Wynn’s Sunset Terrace.

Today it finally hit me. We've done it. We're building the first production 311RS!! It will be based on the 2013 Evo X pictured above. Starting with a fresh Evo X for #01 will be a huge improvement over the Jim Russell Racing School tracked-out beast we built #00 with.

After all of this development with #00, what’s next? #01 of course. Recently we’ve secured the intent to build the first production 311RS, known internally as #01. Before we build all eleven (11) cars, we need to build one that will represent what a production 311RS will look like.

It’s slightly depressing to think the Summer of 2012 is almost over. Days on the lake, weekends at the track, girls not wearing many clothes ... things I will miss most about this summer. But it’s with great excitement I can announce that with the summer 2012 coming to a close, the 311RS Prototype (#00) has completed it’s final phase of development

Driving impressions are one thing, details are another. Having the summer to drive #00 allowed me to fine tune each aspect of the setup that would eventually make up a production 311RS. I need this car to be perfect, not only so the eventual owners’ expectations are met, but for myself.

Having #00 in Mpls for the summer meant I had access to it any time I was home. The car was designed with it the intent of being a street car that you could live with on a daily basis. Turns out that’s exactly what it is. Just as the JRZ RS1s are great on track, they are even better on street. One of the most important ingredients in the 311RS recipe is ride quality.

The event that wasn’t. For the 311RS that is. OLoA was selected as the 3rd and final competition event that we would enter #00 in as part of the final phase of development. A week before the event, we had to pull out.

Living less than 2 hours away from Brainerd International Raceway is a treat. Over the past few years they’ve spent some time and money to update the facility, and it shows. What used to be a rundown, sloppy racetrack is now a semi-pro track with FIA approved fencing and fresh tarmac. Unable to make OLoA, BIR became the obvious choice to complete our final phase of development on #00.

As I look back at TX Mile 2012 I couldn’t be any happier. The car performed flawlessly. But acceleration is only one part of the equation makes up the 311RS. #00 needed to be pushed harder. The next test for the car was Modified Tuner Shootout - The annual gathering of the USA’s best tuned cars hand-picked by editors at Modified Magazine. This year, they chose to focus on Street cars whereas in the past it’s been primarily competition car-based. Being built as a street car, the 311RS was a prefect candidate.

Last year we visited TX Mile with my OB Evo X. The car hit 180mph without issue and would have gone much faster if the car wasn't gear limited. I run a KAPS Group-N gear box in that car, and while it's perfect on track, it's not ideal for any sort of top speed run. But it was fun to run the car in full T/A-spec and see what it could do.

I'm sitting here trying to comprehend what we have just done. A few days back, we held our 311RS Premiere at Oakley HQ. Yes, that Oakley. They allowed us to premiere the 311RS and our short film at their worldwide headquarters. I couldn't have asked for a better location to premiere the 311RS Program. Really, Oakley's HQ is awesome.

So since November, I've been quietly working to put together an event to launch the 311RS. And it's almost here! Finally. We needed a unique location that had room for the cars, displays, and most importantly, could play our "Promo Film".

Finally, here is the info for the 311RS Event via our web flyer. I worked with the folks at Phenom Global to produce this clean flyer to announce our event. I'm pretty excited about this event, it's at Oakley's HQ! What?! Yea, it should be really cool. We'll have the cars there, parts from each partner will be on display, there will be drinks and snacks, girls, oh, and a film premiere.

It's almost here! A few images have been shown online, some specifications have been laid out, but the time has (almost) come to reveal the full 311RS Program. Instead of launching the car at SEMA, it was decided that we'd hold our own event specifically tailored to the 311RS.

Each year with everyone still hungover from SEMA, Super Lap Battle puts all of those fresh SEMA builds to the test just a few days after they debut. Super Lap the original Time Attack race here in the US, and it's still the best. I've competed in each Super Lap since 2008, it's the only event I've always made a point to hit. But before Super Lap, there was some business to be taken care of with the 311RS.

We had been imagining, dreaming, planning and anything in between about this film shoot for so long. Jonny and Colt from Film Matters and I have worked on a few smaller scale films in the past, but this was film would be different. It was a our first chance to show what we we're really capable of when it comes to producing a legitimate car-related film. We had all of the components necessary to produce the film; an interesting car, a dedicated film crew of 23 people (!!!), helicopters, RED cameras, a track, and a real budget.

At this point, the 311RS looked the part - Wheels, tires and suspension, check. 311RS livery, check. Now it was time for some AMS power! The choice to go with an AMS engine package was an easy one. We had developed and tested a majority of them on my Evo X, I knew they worked properly and we were confident that the package was more than capable of producing the right amount of power for the 311RS. .

Painting the stripe on the car and wheels was by far the most nerve-racking part of this build. Jon Sibal and I worked together to create the 311RS livery earlier this year. I was pretty specific about how I wanted the livery to turn out and he nailed it, first try no less. The rendering was perfect. Even the color was on point.

The 311RS is starting to take shape! Look at this thing. I wanted the wheels, tires and suspension installed before the drive home to test how the package would handle a long distance trip with a couple friends and some film gear. The focus of the 311RS has always been street car. Track performance would come naturally, so this test was a great start to developing a legitimate street car.

After the drive from Sonoma, it was Tim to dig into the car and begin the process of building a 311RS. First, a few things we learned about the car on the drive home; It was beat! It ran pretty rough, the bumper didn't stay on, and suspension was blown out. But it was an Evo...so it had that going for it.

"This is it?" My first thought when picking up what would end up being the 311RS Prototype. Jonny from Film Matters and I drove up to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, CA from LA to pick up a Wicked White Evo X GSR to build as the first 311RS.
